FAQs
Will the vehicle increase in weight?
No, the weight increase (if any!) is insignificant and will not compromise the vehicle’s load and carry limits.
Will the conversion impact road tax?
Yes, when RENTEQ have converted the vehicle, DMR (Motorregister) will be updated to reflect that it is an electric vehicle and road tax will automatically be reduced to the rate for electric vehicles.
What specifications will the converted vehicle get?
As majority of the vehicle is unchanged, we will only increase horsepower and torque with 20-40% depending on which engine version the original vehicle had.
Will you reuse the gearbox?
To give the most reliable solution we will eliminate the original gearbox, for the Mercedes Sprinter it means that we attach the electric motor directly to the prop shaft without any gearbox at all. If a gearbox is needed then we will typically go for a single speed gearbox with a service interval higher than 250.000 km.
What range can you offer?
For a Mercedes Sprinter size of vehicle and without adding weight to the vehicle, we guarantee 400-500 km range (WLTP), and minimum 350 km range during winter (Denmark climate).
How fast can the converted vehicle charge?
It will have at least 20 kW AC charger and 150-200 kW DC charging. A converted Mercedes Sprinter with a 120 kWh battery pack charges from 10-90% in 4.5 hours on AC and around 30 minutes on DC.
How long time does it take to convert a vehicle?
About 3 weeks, including “syn” and registration with the authorities. RENTEQ can convert multiple vehicles simultaneously
Which vehicle variants can you convert?
Right now, we offer to convert Mercedes Sprinter’s (all types, newer than 2006). We will continuously launch new vehicle variants, based on demand and market size. Contact us, if you are interested in converting a fleet of vehicles.
Can the converted vehicle be insured?
Yes! RENTEQ has confirmed with several Danish insurance companies that they will insure RENTEQ-converted vehicles. We are also working on partnering with insurance companies to offer competitive insurance premiums. As the battery pack is modular in RENTEQ’s conversion system, only the damaged battery modules will be replaced, and not the full battery pack, if the vehicle is in an accident, making repairs cheaper and potentially also insurance premium.
Why do RENTEQ-converted vehicles have the lowest CO2 footprint?
Good question! A RENTEQ conversion avoids 50% of the CO2 emission from manufacturing a new EV. In addition, by converting an existing combustion engine vehicle, we can document removing a CO2-emitting engine from ever polluting again.
Is it safe and reliable?
Yes! RENTEQ only use proven and validated components from leading suppliers. Our control system is ISO-26262 certified, which is the highest safety standard. This standard is not legally required to be compliant with for new EVs. The battery pack comes with 7 year warranty and electric engine with 2 years
How much can I expect to save per year in operating expenses?
For a normal van below 3500 kg total weight, driving 50.000 km/year, savings total DKK 70.000-90.000 per year.
In which countries do you offer vehicle conversions?
For now, RENTEQ can only offer conversions in Denmark. We will expand to the Nordics within a couple of years.
